Understanding the New SA Fertility Treatment Rebate Scheme

The South Australian Government has made a meaningful commitment to help South Australians access fertility care. From 1 July 2026, the new SA Fertility Treatment Rebate Scheme provides eligible residents with financial support toward the cost of fertility tests and treatment, because starting or growing a family shouldn’t be limited by cost.

Family Fertility Centre is a registered fertility treatment provider under this scheme. If you’re eligible, your treatment with us counts.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Do I apply for the rebate before or after my treatment?

You apply after your treatment or testing, once you’ve incurred an out-of-pocket expense. Before applying, ask your FFC specialist to complete the Declaration Form with you. This is required as part of your application. You then apply online at www.sa.gov.au/concessions.

How does the rebate work with Medicare and private health insurance?

The rebate covers your out-of-pocket costs. Meaning what’s left after Medicare and any private health insurance have already paid their share. You’ll need a Medicare Statement of Benefits or receipt showing your out-of-pocket amount to apply.

Which pre-fertility tests are eligible for the $250 rebate?

    The following tests are eligible:

    • Anti-Müllerian Hormone (AMH) test
    • Pelvic Ultrasound (for fertility investigation purposes)
    • Ovulation Tracking
    • Semen Examination

You can claim up to $250 across one or more of these tests, and you can only submit one application.

Which tests aren't covered by the rebate?

The following are not eligible under the scheme:

    • Hormonal blood tests (FSH, LH, Estradiol)
    • Infectious disease blood tests (Hepatitis B/C, HIV)
    • Cervical screening tests
    • Genetic or Expanded Carrier Screening
    • Tests received outside of South Australia
Can same-sex couples or single women access the rebate?

Eligibility is open to SA residents who are seeking to become pregnant using fertility treatment, regardless of relationship status or family structure.

How long does the SA fertility treatment rebate scheme run?

The SA Fertility Treatment Rebate Scheme runs from 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2030. Tests and treatment cycles must fall within this period to be eligible.

I'm not sure if I meet the income threshold, can I still enquire?

Yes. If your household income is $180,000 or less, you may be eligible. Our team is happy to talk you through the scheme at your consultation.
